LFSB 10th Birthday Party

On a bright and unseasonably dry October day, the London Freedom Seed Bank (LFSB) celebrated its’ 10th Birthday at the Garden of Earthly Delights in Hackney. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Garden of Earthly Delights community, our network and everyone else who made the event as incredible as it was!

While the sun was up there was a seed cyanotype workshop, using plants from the Garden of Earthly Delights and seeds from the LFSB. This was followed by a kids art session in one corner of the community garden while an “Intro to Seed Saving”  workshop began in another. The workshop grew into an exciting conversation around the politics and importance of saving seed in the fight against climate breakdown.

Throughout the day folks dropped off new varieties for the seed bank, exchanging stories of the seed and its’ ancestry. As the sun began to set, preparation began for Singaporean “hot pot” stewed over an open fire. While the stock slowly came to a boil and candles were lit around the garden, people settled around the fire for an evening of music and storytelling.

There was seed poetry, rounds of radical protest songs, folk music and discussions around GM and the fight for food justice through seed. We would again like to thank everyone who contributed, shared and enjoyed the day!
